"Wearable Friday" [What to Wear]

All of our fashion lives we have heard stories about Dior’s A-line dress. We learned how it was born in 1955 after the restrictions of military and civilian uniforms. We also learned how it changed the fashion world from cinched waist and accentuated hips to fitted bodice plus, undefined waist with a pleated skirt. The greatest thing about Dior’s A-line dress creation is that it was made for just about every body shape.

Not only is it a perfect dress for women with Straight, Pear, Hourglass and Diamond Shape, it is a great “go-to” apparel item. A-line dress is perfect for work, dinner parties, date night or a casual day hanging with some friends.

You can wear an A-line dress several different ways. At work try a blazer with you’re a-line dress. A tailored blazer will give you the sleek but sharp look you’re looking for, but let’s have some fun styling it up. Instead of a simple black dress try a floral print with a black blazer or if simple is your thing stay with the black dress and jazz it up with some colorful tights.

Another way to really style up you’re a-line dress is with an accessory statement piece. Wear a chunky necklace or a colorful belt or knee high boots. If you want a different look buy a strap scoop neck a-line dress add a turtle neck shirt with a string pearl necklace. It’s a fun and cute look.

So give this wearable a try :)

"Body Shape... the Perfect Fit" [Hourglass]

Hey everyone, the last time we posted about body shapes we realized we needed to know more about our body shape. We started out with the Straight Body Type and as promised, we will now discuss the Hourglass Body Type.

Hourglass body type has a shapely chest (boobylicious) and bottom that is almost of equal size and a defined waist.  Just think of the old adage that women use to say when describing their shape: 36-24-36.

As an Hourglass body type your assets are your rounded bottom and shapely legs.  So, if you’re an hourglass shape, remember two things:  one… I need to accentuate my waist and two… I need to show off my shapely legs.

Ok, now what is the best clothing to buy?

Your tops should be:

  • Form-fitting shirts
  • Tailored Shirts
  • Shirts with banding at the waist, V-neck, U-shape
  • Wide Belts
  •  Bra with support and control

Your bottom should be:

  • High-waist pants and skirts
  • Pencil skirts
  • Boot cut and straight leg pants
  • Skinny jeans and Jeans with flap pockets
  • Can wear any length dress

Your dress should be:

Your Jackets should be:

Extra Tips:

  • Avoid the straight lines style, it will cover up your curves and make you appear heavy.
  • To show off your curves try using proportions by adding a bit of volume to your upper and lower body.

COLOR- Not afraid.........Just Confused (YOUR COLOR STORY)

Hey divas, on my last post, Just Confused, we talked about what colors match. Today, I want us to talk about how to tell your story.

Part of telling your color story is to know which colors work with each season. Warm colors are Red-Violet, Red, Red-orange, Orange, Yellow-orange, and Yellow. These hues represent energy and activity; they are mostly fashionable in Fall/Winter. Cool colors are Violet, Blue-violet, Blue, Blue-green, Green, Yellow-green (pastel colors). These hues are calm and soothing; they are mostly fashionable in Spring/Fall.

Warm colors have brightness that jumps out, whereas the cool color brightness is reduced. If you want to tell a story of bold strength go bright, ex: Red and Yellow.  Now, in case bold statements are just not your thing, take a cool color like a blue shirt then add a neutral color blazer.  Still, if you're weary of color, you can introduce it little by little. Accessorizing is great, this will give you that pop you are looking for.
