"Body Shape... the Perfect Fit" [Hourglass]

Hey everyone, the last time we posted about body shapes we realized we needed to know more about our body shape. We started out with the Straight Body Type and as promised, we will now discuss the Hourglass Body Type

Hourglass body type has a shapely chest (boobylicious) and bottom that is almost of equal size and a defined waist.  Just think of the old adage that women use to say when describing their shape: 36-24-36.

As an Hourglass body type your assets are your rounded bottom and shapely legs.  So, if you’re an hourglass shape, remember two things:  one… I need to accentuate my waist and two… I need to show off my shapely legs.

Ok, now what is the best clothing to buy?

Your tops should be:

  • Form-fitting shirts
  • Tailored Shirts
  • Shirts with banding at the waist, V-neck, U-shape
  • Wide Belts
  •  Bra with support and control

Your bottom should be:

  • High-waist pants and skirts
  • Pencil skirts
  • Boot cut and straight leg pants
  • Skinny jeans and Jeans with flap pockets
  • Can wear any length dress

Your dress should be:

Your Jackets should be:

Extra Tips:

  • Avoid the straight lines style, it will cover up your curves and make you appear heavy.
  • To show off your curves try using proportions by adding a bit of volume to your upper and lower body.

"Body Shape... the Perfect Fit" [Straight]

Hey everyone, while writing my post “Shop your Skin Tone” I realized there was another important subject that needs to be discussed, plus it is very necessary when picking the right outfit.   It’s about knowing your body shape. Now...there are 6 body shape types: Straight, Hourglass, Inverted Triangle, Pears, Diamond and Oval. Today we are going to talk about the Straight Body Type.

ok… lets talk straight :) ... straight or I shape body types has chest and hips that are the same width, while the waist has a little definition. When thinking about straight body type you should imagine an athletic body and with most athletes the best assets are the arms and legs. So, if you are straight shaped, when shopping remember two things: one… I need to create curves, and two... I need to show off my legs and arms.

Now let’s talk about what is the best clothing to buy…

Your tops should be:
  •           V-neck, U-neck, off the shoulders and sweetheart
  •           It should flow around the chest area
  •           Embellished collars, and ruffles
  •           Structured shoulders

Here is a cute ASOS off the shoulder top…..

Your bottoms should be:

  •           Pants: embellished, flap pockets, flared legs plus color pants
  •           Skirts: tiered or bubble

Your Dresses should have:
  •            Ruching (not my favorite, but it does work)

Check out the lead singer of the 1979 Mary Jane Girls R&B group Joanna "JoJo" McDuffie. She is wearing a body suit with rips on the side.
